I understand the strength that social media holds in our society, but I don't view it as a healthy way for myself to stay connected to friends, family, my local community, and the global community. Increasingly, platforms like Facebook and Instagram implement strategies that take our attention away from who and what we decide to follow. It also feels disingenuous for me to share snippets of my life without the room to elaborate in a small caption. That's why I've started using Substack, an email newsletter platform, so that when I make a post, it goes directly to your inbox - no ads, no suggested posts, no distractions, just me!
It's difficult to earn a steady income as a musician and to find gigs that pay well. Festivals provide guaranteed pay and put you in front of a large, diverse audience. Unless you follow festivals closely, it's hard to know when and how to apply for them. I started a newsletter where I do that work for you! I cover the small and large music festivals across Canada so independent artists can find solid gigs.
